DirectX and OpenGL

What exactly are they and what do they do for you? Are they basically libraries giving you the info you need(music,graphics,ect.)to make a game and make it portable for an os. Or am I completely off?Any help will be appreciated! Sabin1
They are APIs that act somewhat like middle-men between you and the hardware.
DirectX covers Graphics, Audio, Input(keyboard/mouse), Networking, and Installing(ahem).
OpenGL is simply for Graphics.
There are quite a few articles on this site for them, I suggest you leave them alone until you''ve learned enough to need them.
No offense, but if you''re asking questions like that, then you probably don''t need either of them quite yet.
