I have downloaded the MD3 export plugin for GMax. When I try to export my model I get problems. Some error message compaining about UV coords not being 1:1. Well, any ways, I have built and animated a little space rock. I think the total polies in it are around 20 to 25. So should I use a MD3 for this file? Is there a better more compact file format that was a plugin for GMax that would be a better choice. I need to know were I can get export plugings for 3DS files. I think a 3DS is a little bigger then a MD3 but more easier to load, or os I''ve heard. I''ve read parts of a doc on the file format. From what I''ve seen, 3DS files are sort of simple. They have a half a$$ directory structure goin on.

well, md3 is a quake3 format so it expects some things, like a proper UVW map i imagine.

3ds is officially not supported by Gmax, as you''re not supposed to export Gmax models to other apps or games not directly supported.

There''s however a third party 3ds plugin ...can''t remember if it just imported or exported 3ds ...or if does both now. Use google, should be easy to find.

I know all about uv coords, but what went wrong with GMax? It like messed them up or something. Besides, I don''t need a animation file format, I just need a mesh file format. I can''t find one either. Something like the X file format would do. The only animation that I need is some simple rotation. Something that a simple game engine can provide. Google didn''t give me shit on 3DS plugins for GMax. All I ran into was a bunch of shit-pages talking about 3DS Max, not GMax. Sometimes I hate google.....

I just looked around but the plugin is only for import.

Anyways, something must be wrong with the UV''s or polygons if it doesn''t export to md3.

Maybe try exporting to another game format, there are tool you can use then to convert that file to 3ds or whatever, like Milkshape, 3d exploration, unwrap3d etc.
