3D terrain modeling, any Artists can help?
Hi, I''m currently working on my thesis which is based on automated 3d terrain modeling. What I''m looking for is list of books/web-sites that provide techniques for modeling all sorts of phenomena for 3d terrains
I''ve found a few, but any links for generating rivers, roads, lakes etc... Merging/tiling fractal terrains etc... would be appreciated.
I''m basically designing a system that will remove the randomness from these techniques, but I need a list of them to prove this. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, if anyone''s interested in helping model some pretty terrains, please let me know. I''m planning on sending my paper to SIGGRAPH this year, and if anyone wants to showcase their talents by helping me generate any phenomena, it would help me and you.
Replies in forum are great, but I''d prefer if you drop me an e-mail so we can chat.

Thanks in advance to anyone interested
hey, a fellow York U comp sci student! If you're looking for actual tools to design terrain manually, take a look at software like Vue D'Esprit, or Bryce. Both are extremely easy to learn and use, but Vue is much more visually impressive. You might also be able to use their extensive toolsets as a reference for what you might need in your system.
good luck with the paper,

I have bryce actually and I''m playing around with it. What I''m intrested is in learning how artists use these tools, because I think I can make their lives easier with my system.
I''ve found quit a lot of bryce tutorials but I find they''re all links to the same sites. Looking to see if I can find any more.
Thanks for the help.
You currently an undergrad plectrum? Or a grad student?

Yep, I''m in 2nd year of the bachelor of CS program..I''m guessing you''re a grad student?
If you want to make artists lives easier, you could try posting surveys on some bryce forums, or try www.deviantart.com - they have a huge forum section and thousands of artists.
I''d offer my services for that terrain modeling, but I''m already involved in a few projects as an artist
