Implement an AD&D-like world with DM
I am a fan of AD&D. Now I am to build a fantastic world with humans and demons. In order to give chaotic world a trusted authority, I am wondering whether I should develop a God-like character, say, Dungeon Master. I have an idea that I want to make all these characters autonomous as well as DM. DM should play GOD and make this world more narrative.
For instance, if a human encounters an ogre, they begin to fight each other. DM could adjust the attack rate, damage point, defence value of theirs. When the human is so strong and the poor ogre is near dying, DM could say to itself that I am GOD and I like this little villain (sounds like game “Dungeon Keeper”). So DM maybe summons an overwhelming dragon to scare the human away. Of course, there are many other feasible ways to make this world more “dramatic”. DM should behaves itself reasonably and everything happens in this world should be as believable as possible.
In fact, it is a little simulation system rather than a game. I don’t need to implement smashing graphics for it, but I consider the implementation of AI plays an important role in it. I really need some advices and suggestions from the people who have the similar ideas or experiences.
BTW, Is C++ sufficient enough to implement the parallel system like that above? Someone suggest me to use java according to “simulation” instead of “game”. Any suggestions?
Sorry for my poor English, Thanks a lot.

Yep, having played around alot with the Aurora Toolset for NWN I would say that it offers exactly what you want. Basically, it provides the environment and you can write your own AI. Unfortunately though, NWScript (the scripting language used for NWN) is a little terse and it makes it quite difficult to write a complex AI. Also I found the timing system a bit annoying... but workable.
Given that there is a huge NWN community you will find plenty of people to help you learn about the toolset and to help you develop your own game world.
Good luck,
Timkin

Thanx! Fortunately, I have bought the NWN recently but I did spend much less time to utilize the kit within it than just playing it.
Ok, I will follow your advices and see what I can do. Thank two of you again.
