Without meaning to sound sarcastic or funny, the best thing you can do is buy an A4 pad, and maybe some graph paper. Sharpen your pencil and then all you need to decide is ''What shall I draw?''
Practice makes perfect.
Practice makes perfect.
Practice makes perfect.
i agree with jojax
i dont know what level you want to do this at, but you might also buy some image editing programs, paintshop pro or photoshop
good luck with whatever you are attempting to do!

And then, to make it a little more complicated, if you want to make a really good-looking title screen or sprite, try Blender.
It's a fairly simple 3D modeler.
Or you could hire a 3D artist if you have too much money
Good luck!

well since you dont want tutorials from THIS site, why not tutorials on other sites, right?
infamous links... will help out tremendously.
http://pixeltutorial.cjb.net
i also wrote up a tutorial regarding 2d game sprites and plan to enhance them incrementally, but i am in the midst of making all my links work again (changed directories of the files)
its hosted at
www.spritedomain.net
check back there later
basically, if i understand your post correctly , you are interested in pixel and 2d paletted artwork, since most, if not just about all sprite work is done with limited colors (for many different reasons). maybe if you could elaborate in more detail what type of sprites or tiles you intend to make (top down, sidescrolling, isometric, etc, and genre of game would help to know as well) we could help you out a bit more.
good luck
(oh ps TABLETS are wonderful )
