I am very new to game development, however it is a goal of mine to get involved. I recently discovered gmax by discreet, and have just messed with the tutorials. My question is, Is it possible to use gmax animations with a game that I have programmed, or do I need some other software in order to use the animations? I am very confused. I don''t want others to change my models, I just want to use the animation in a game.
Never used Gmax, but from what I understand the only file's it will import/export.....are the ones that the developer has paid to license with discreet.

i know rpg games like dungeon siege and never winternights use gmax. But i think you cant use it unless you pay discreet.

yeah, gmax cannot be used for purposes other than adding new resources to the list of games it supports. If you are starting out, you might want to try out MilkShape (http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/) or Wings3D (http://www.wings3d.com/) as alternative, since they are both free modellers, and good enough to start out, although far from the quality of products like gmax.
And if you''re really serious about doing high quality 3D models and art checkout Blender. Very Very powerful and its free, plus a new version is soon to be released. Note: Blender has a decent learning curve sobe ready toexperiment. Well worth the effort.
If you are really serious then buy the 3dmas o maya full.

IMHO :Gmax is good for nothing.
