What's your favorite Card Game?
Hey, I'm just doing some research for a small side project that I plan on doing in the next 2 months while the X2 project goes through it's design reviews.
It's a simple playing card game for the PC. I've already got a very interesting idea of what type of game it will be, but I am just curious in knowing what your favorite card game is and why is it fun to you?
thanx

Man, there is SOOo many card games
Just with a classic pack you can have endless hours of fun. And when you add all the cool new Trading Card Games, it''s limitless.
I think what I like in card games is the replayability, the presence of tactics beyond the apparent random nature of the games, and the interaction with your opponents.
some games, like the French Tarot (52 cards + the 22 arcanes) are hardly based on chance but rather your memory and ability to establish a tactic with your partner without speaking.
Some I just enjoy for the simplicity of the rules and the ability to teach it quickly to people to play with me (like a game called Canasta, or American 8, or even Uno, I think you know the one...)
A nice game I discovered recently is called shithead (at least around here in the NorthWest of Ireland), is a discarding game, you start with 3 hidden cards on the table, 3 face up cards on top of those, and 3 in your hand. There is a few special effet cards, and you have to drop your cards by increasing value. Simple, highly tactical, and endlessly entertaining
andwhen you get into TCG, let not get me started it''s endless.

It''s called shithead in north yorkshire to. You have to put a higher or equal card than the top card but you can put a 2,7,9 or 10 down whatever the top card in the pile.
If you put a 7 down the next player has to beat the card below the 7. If you put a 9 down then the next player has to go lower than 9 and if you put a 10 down the pile is discarded and a new one started. I can''t remember what happens if you can''t beat the top card on the pile, I think you have to take the whole pile but I couldn''t be sure.
A real card game is Poker. I think it has the right mixture of skill and chance, plus it can get real exciting when there''s money involved.
The way I played it was 5 cards were dealt to each player. Then each player in turn could drop a number of cards and then draw that number out of the deck. Then we would start putting money in, each person could put in some money, if they didn''t like the look of their cards they could drop out losing only the money they had already put in. The winner was the one whoo had the best hand.
Apparently there are loads of variations of Poker.

Black Jack! :D it''s amazing how tactical it can be when you know how to play properly. but for beginners it''s just random guessing.
possibly one of the fascinations about card games is the apparent randomness of the game, which, to the initiated, is in fact not that random.
Something about manipulating Chance and controlling Chaos ? (which is the motivation/excuse of most gamblers, btw)

Magic. Even if playing it can be expensive, this is among the most strategic card games ever conceived. There are billions of ways (literally) that card effects can combine, but there''s nothing random about the preparation that goes into making a deck before a game.
If you mean playing card games, then Poker and Solitaire are both a lot more strategic than they look. Poker isn''t as random as a lot of people think; try it sometime!
