GPI site premires!
I''ve been working long and hard over the past three days on this site and I''m happy to announce that my effort has paid off! The GPI (Game Programming Interface) project site is up and running at the following address:
http://gpidev.freeservers.com
A little info about the project (more details on the site.) My goal is to turn this site into a small GameDev type community focused on creating a set of game programming wrapper/library classes. The focus will not be on the actual code (although, there will be code) but instead on the thought process that goes into designing an engine from the ground up.
Hopefully it will be a learning experience for everyone involved as we discuss the pro''s and con''s of different engine/wrapper implementations for game development. There are a lot of tutorials out there about specific parts of a game engine, and even a few overarching design guides, but I''m hoping that this site will keep a record of what goes on behind the sceens so to speak when an engine or set of wrapper classes are being developed. If this information is available, it will be easy for anyone to modify the code (since they would really understand WHY everything is done how it is) or to code their own implementation.
Even if there isn''t much interest, I still plan on working on this since the engine development is something I am going to do anyway. If nobody else contributes the site will simply turn into my personal design diary which will not only be available as a reference for others who are learning, but it will help me to understand what I''m doing better since I will have to explain it on the site.
Either way, please take a minute to stop on by and check out the site. If you are interested, please leave me a post here, or on the site message board (or drop me an email) I''d love to hear from you! If you decide not to participate, at least stop by the site every now and then to see how the engine it coming along. I will try to post updates here as the project reaches major milestones so that people can stay informed and use the developing code base for their own projects if they find it useful.
I will be adding some design ideas for the first set of projects to the site tomorrow so stay tuned...
