http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=project&page=view.job&qid=1664 Job description there for a lead programmer. STG is a free game, based on the Torque Game Engine (Garage Games). We are mostly a bunch of modelers and level designers from Tribes2 and Torque (an upcoming game called Legends). We''ve got a simple game framework which we are looking to get to SIMPLE beta, and then flush out creatively through intense artistic development and play testing. We imagine some stand-by things for now... Gametypes: ctf, escort/vip (i.e. get across the map), team hunt Weapons: small selection, minimal splash Vehicles: 3-person Jeep, air transport, heavy ground transport From there, we expect to provide an EXTREMELY dynamic team which can organize around sets of level design concepts. For example, we plan on having a series of escort/vip maps which utilize TRAINS which must be taken over and secured by the defense. We plan on having a series of maps which involve real dropships and potentually gliders and/or parachutes. The idea is to get flexible code in this, which then the team can build on for artistic, gameplay driven development. In other words, we expect to get to a simple beta and then PLAY from there through multiple development phases as we brainstorm ideas and flush out next stages of design docs. Accordingly, this team has very deep roots in the best of the mapping and modding community for Tribes2. We also expect to be able to take that experience (and wider love of many games), to make a FREE, fun game development platform with people who want to jump in. We expect to be an open development community once we get to a simple beta (which will include 3-4 maps, the core weapons, ctf gametype code, and the jeep). Likewise, this is a fantastic opportunity for a programmer, since the wider Garage Games community is a great scene for budding game developers. ANYWAYS, Im excited to finally engage this forum and I hope that if I dont find a programmer, I can find some new buddies here. Peace - TseTse ( _joseki_san@yahoo.com )
The last time I checked out the Torque engine it was early in the developement and they still hadn''t replaced the terrain part of the engine that had been ripped out from Tribes II. My question is: what does the Torque engine have terrain rendering now? Also, what are TRAINS? Do you mean real locomotive type trains?

The Jeep model and troopers look awesome, good luck!

Torque has come a long way. In fact, Tribes2 code just went through a major overhaul, and the Garage Games people were the ones contracted to do it (the GGames people were actually the original coders behind Tribes and went off to make Torque, etc).

Terrain system in Torque is as good as T2, and with the wide open dev community... the code constantly improves.

As for TRAINS, we''ll see. Just one of many ideas, but we''re really excited to explore the "escort/vip" idea with larger transport systems.

As for the models, those are actually VERY rough concepts. Lead modeler has already moved onto some new designs with much higher poly counts. Our goal is to flush out basic stuff first, play around, then move to more finalized products.

Glad you like it.
