Directplay / WinXP problem

Does anyone recognize this problem; I have 2 network cards in my pc; one for internet and one for the local network. When I start the SimpleServer app that comes with the directx8.1 sdk, I get an invalid (network)device error. The SimpleChat server program that comes with the Multiplayer Game Programming book gives exactly the same problem. (When calling the Host function) I tried uninstalling the local network card; running the applications then doesn''t give any problems. After letting windows scan for new hardware and auto installing the network card again; still no problem. But when I let windows(xp) set up my pc automatically for ''home networking with xp'', both apps give an invalid device error again when they call the Host function. Why is that? I''m just starting out with DirectPlay and don''t have a clue what the problem could be. Thanks for any help..
Weird

I have a similar set up, XP with two network cards. one for my Broadband connection and one for my local network.
I set my local network up using ''home networking with xp'' and everything runs fine.

The only thing I have done is disable XP''s firewall on the local network as I use ZoneAlarms anyway.

Strange, I''ve disabled the firewall too, and also tried it on a friends computer (also XP and 2 network cards). Exactly the same errors with his set up. If it''s not the combination XP/Directplay, then what could it be?
