Omigosh omigosh omigosh the Spore Creature Creator is out, for both PC and Mac!

I've got the Mac trial demo installed and am just about to give it a spin. I'm really keen on getting a taste of how Spore will feel like, and to see if there's any obvious issues with Mac compatibility. I'll post more in this journal entry after I've got my first impressions.

The Trappersaurus!

Okay, I've given it a quick spin. So far I'm pretty impressed. The creature creator is very easy to pick up and learn. I made most of this little guy without even having to click on the help button - I only needed to check it to see how to fatten the guy up.

The trial demo only has a handful of parts, and annoyingly the mouths are all for carnivores, so there's a limit on what I can make (no birds, alas, and most ultracute creature styles are out). But it's pretty a fair amount of fun to throw a critter together and then run it around the trial pen. There's a good vibe I'm getting from the personality of this game, and I'll probably enjoy it just from making my own li'l critters and letting them live in a world.

The Mac version seems to run pretty seamlessly, which is what I'd expect of a port on my rather new iMac.

If you're at all interested in Spore and can spare the download bandwidth, you might as well give it a quick spin and see what you think.
