I narrowed down the list of typefaces to a few that caught my eye, and out of those I chose three to use in a few mock-ups:
Left: Marker Felt (comes with Mac OS X)
Centre: Icicle Country 2 (a free Larabie Font)
Right: Hobo Std (Adobe font)
Incidentally, I really recommend Larabie Fonts as a great source of truly freeware fonts. Another good site is Aenigma Fonts.
From these three logos, I've scrunched the letters together and added a border to make it look more logo like:
They're starting to look acceptable as is. I don't think I need to bother with a custom typeface. Out of these three I'm not really sure which one I prefer. Marker Felt has a really nice casual look to it, but I am a bit worried it's a fairly wide spread font so people might be a bit sick of it. Icicle Country has some angular flair to it that pops, but it's also the least readable which becomes an issue when the logo is shrunk. Hobo Std is a bit of a mix, but I'm not sure it's giving off the right vibe - maybe it'd work better with a capital T, or maybe I need a close relative?
The logo work is coming along great! Keep rockin'! :)
