My question is I am workin on my first game "pong Xtreme"(pong clone), and I was wondering if you can use opengl for 2d games. If you can would it be easier to use directdraw.Thank you for your input.

I''m pretty sure there might be some way of using OpenGL in 2D games. You might want to set some time aside and try it!
Of course. Just don''t use any Z coordinate at all, or use an orthogonal projection.

Try NeHe, he''s got a 2D game as one of his lessons.

If it''s your first game I strongly recommend DirectDraw. There''s a new tutorial here on GameDev.net called "DirectDraw made easy" why not try reading it?
I have made a few games (ex: http://hemojes.4t.com) in DirectDraw and I''m still using it. I want my game to run on a P166 with no 3d card
