I''m sorry... this just sounds like another of those "I''ve been in college way too long and want to create some mythical utopian society where the meek really do inherit the earth" game designs. People don''t want to play that, they want to maim, kill and run rampant.
Hm, that''s not at all what I was aiming for. I simply wanted to create a design where people could actually do something, anything besides combat. Or where they could do something before they fall back on combat.
What would be fun enough to entertain you while you travel across the virtual world?
I guess you have to somewhat imagine it like a Mario game, where you collect coins or something, but without any monsters.
One of the things I''ve been thinking of is to make merely traveling into a game of skill. Maybe in order to reach the coins you need to climb trees or mountains, or swim across a raging river. Maybe you need to maneuvre across an obstacle course.
That''s more what I''m looking for. The MMO part would simply mean that everything you do is done in a virtual world where other characters are doing the same thing at the same time, and that there can be competition and co-operation. The RPG part has less to do with fantasy, magic and swords as it has to do with the character-development part.

sports
Good idea. Sports is almost like a friendly way of doing combat, and besides the competition element, it could also make use of the co-op element.
