Firstly, I think you''ll find the misconception of most americans is that YOU won the war...HELLO, other parties involved here....if you''d just played a game of chess and had one more move to go. Then someone came along and made that move for you, would THEY have won?...no, you would have helped. Also, don''t forget that the large reason Britain is not as wealthy as America is becuase of how you totally wiped us clean in WW1 (i''ve done extensive research into this so don''t say it''s wrong unless you can really prove it) Britain was fighting and was running way low on munitions, they asked the U.S for weapons, which they provided but at about 7X more expensive than usual. Plus, the only reason you came into WW2 was because you were s**t scared for your own safety...if Britain fell then that would have hit america hard.

Another thing is that I agree with whoever posted about americans not seeming to notice that anything outside of the us exists.

I also admit that America has been crucial to the developement of technonlogy but is some of this technology such a good thing?....Nuclear missiles...great, the''re useless anyway, noone would dare fire one as everyone knows it would end in total devestation.

Anyhow....this has got me worked up so I''m gonna go and chill out at a mates....bye....PS, if there is any Australians here. I spent most of my time outside the US and i know that most other cultures really dislike the US, even tho that the popular opinion seems to be differnt domestically. I, myself, dont like the US, im just here until i graduate from medical school.

I've just been catching up with this thread, and I read web_spynner's post about the UK, and I would just like to say: F*** you!

I'm not particularly patriotic or anything, and I reckon we've got a few government problems just now (just where the heck does all that tax go to anyway?), but I hardly think its your place to be criticising other nations, when the USA is globally recognised as the biggest screw up human kind ever made.

What I'm basically saying (and I'll try and make it nice and simple, because, although I'm desperately trying not to use that stereotype, you're obviously pretty narrow-minded and ignorant of the rest of the world (outside the US)) is that you are in no position to judge anyone.

I don't agree with the use of any kind of stereotype, but it isn't very hard to see why America is so unpopular with the rest of the world when it has people like you shooting your mouth off.

PS: America has lost quite a few wars considering they have the biggest, most advanced war machine around (by quite a long way).

PPS: This post isn't meant as flame (sorry if it comes across as such), I'm just having my say.

PPPS: I really agree with alot of the stuff Altman has been saying at the top of this page, nice one.

Please Mr/Mrs/Miss moderator, I''d be most happy if you could close this thread for me. Things has obviously gone out of hands since the people replying here isn''t civilized enough to use proper language.

This was completely not my intention when I wrote the post, I simply wanted to state the fact that the french nuclear commision probably has stopped with their nuclear bomb testing and gone over to using computer simulations, but this has evolved to an ugly flame war in which the people are incapable of conversing properly.

Grow up.

GEo and Saint Why put oil on the fire ? Feel free to defend the UK or any other country. Just don't feel you must attack the US or anybody else for this. Especially using aggressive tone. I know that sometimes Europeans feel that Americans fail to grasp that their history is not as pure and bright as what we see on TV. We all agree that no country's history is. I know that webspynner's tone was somewhat irritating. But lately, things have got better. Just take whatever steps are necessary to keep this a debate.

Do you see communism in 1984 ? Obviously, yes, if only because of Ingsoc. But it could also be fascism. If ecology had existed at the time as a political movement, I would say that this might also fit the description. Ultra-liberalism, too. Speaking of extremes, of course.
Yes, this book contains warnings about communism. But not only about it. This is a warning against all systems which refuse to take humans into consideration. This book might be seen as a contemporary Utopia .
Which brings me back to my point : communism is a utopia.

Now, which is best between communism and capitalism ? Obviously, capitalism worked better so far. But I do not think that anybody likes to have their life relying on the economic policy of a retirement fund. As a matter of fact, I believe we (human beings) are currently in a transition between semi-liberalism and ultra-liberalism. But ultra-liberalism is a very pessimistic sight. Time Square already looks worse than Blade Runner 's streets. And the "information age" will definitely destroy jobs.
No conclusion to the last sentences. Just pessimistic observations.

Nuclear tests
Btw, to return to the topic : US have not legally banned Nuclear tests, so far. It just seems that none are currently done. Does anybody know the state of simulations ? Has any country been able to make them work yet ?
