Was that a bubble popping?

Seriously though, although I have no practical game design experience, I''m just doing this as a hobby. I mean it''d be awesome to make money off of this, but I''m somewhat realistic. The funny thing is that I work in the same building as EA''s Tiburon office, so I could probably at least get my foot in the door at a gaming company if they needed tech support.

But I think too many people have too many grandiose plans too soon. It''s great to have your dreams, and by all means stick to them, but temper them with some realities. I don''t think any company will take a look at anyone without some kind of track record or knowing you personally. I post what I post here so that even if I don''t make a game, maybe someone else can run with my ideas. Is that a bad thing? Without such an attitude, free software and Linux would not exist.

Sometimes the best way into a job is to volunteer to do things, and once the employer gets to know you, he''ll hire you on. In the software world, just show people what you got and let them see what you have to offer. Maybe you can work with some developers on a mod project, or with an open source engine like Crystal Space or Nebula. Once people can see what you are capable of, your odds will vastly improve.
