Trouble with fog

It seems openGL has trouble with fog if you extremely oversized primitives, ie- lines that cover the entire length of a map. The fogging is completely ruined for the lines. Anybody know of a code around for this, other than coding dozens/hundreds of miniature lines instead of one long line?
