well. . . . what was the deal with that analogy by solinear..."I'm only pushing the envelope that my phone bill came in because I'm not pushing anything on my computer except a few keys and my mouse."........what does that mean? i am not sure if that was an attempt at levity that failed or if he was trying to make some sort of valid point. anyway, where are all you guys wanting to make these huge rpgs expecting to get all your character, scene and all the other acompanying animation from? at least with puzzles games you can do that work yourself. but don't let the graphics stop you in your pursuit of happiness, and your liberty to program whatever you want.

Everyone read this...
Who says we have to make the games?
I mean it would be nice to... but the process of game design varies from Tetris to Final Fantasy.
I''m learning a bit about going through the process of designing an epic multimillion dollar (estimated cost of producing it) console RPG aimed for consoles in 2007...
There''s a difference between design and execution - you learn different things trying to do them.

It''s always nice to have something finished. Looks better than many things unfinished.

I would definately recommend that any beginners try to do something that they DON''T already know, it''s the best way to learn, by pushing your limits. However, I think most people are over their heads trying to make MMORPGs, it takes a team of developers, working full-time (and overtime) at least a year to make a decent RPG. Puzzle games really are appropriate for the beginner, since there''s hardly any art to be made for them, and they won''t steal every minute of free time.
puzzle games are all good and well... but I''d rather make a simple tile based RPG. Simple been the operative word

yeah see . . . Brobanx . . . he knows what''s going on. puzzle games (graphix wise) are great for begginers.
Regualr kid seems to believe that everyone making an RPG has little or no programmming experience.
I am making an RPG and have roughly 8 years of programming experience down my pants. I know its a lot of work too, especially when you do something in 3d. There is all of this math which sometimes nearly drives me to insane frustration.

not everyone is a begginer programmer, i myself have written several simple games which are what you would call ''simple''. I know bassicaly every programming language and consider myself to be very good, and im sure im not the only one. Yes, some people do jump in at the deep end but there are also plenty of people who are capable of writing complex RPG style games.
