Win32 API Programming
Is Win32 API Programming harder than C++? I.E. Harder/Longer to learn?

MFC VC++ is a pain (in my view). Win32 API takes a while to get comfortable with...but the leap from C++ console programming to Win32 API isn''t bad.
Ok, I''m just scared to move on to something new, that''s all. :O

MFC rocks! It does have problems, for instance, it''s somewhat outdated and has trouble getting along with win2k+. But it''s a great library if you don''t mind the overhead.
As for Win32: the initial leap is quite large, because you have to understand several things at once to get your first program running. After that, however, Win32 API is easy, and a lot of fun.

I found MFC to be a little hard, the whole Document / View crap was a pushover. I found Win32 API a breeze. If you''ve mastered C/C++, then the transition to Win32 will not be that hard at all. Maybe at the most a one to two month learning curve for the Win32 API.
After you learn the Win32 API, it makes learning MFC much more easier because you understand what is going on and why.
I recommend going to http://www.maxcode.com and downloading "Programming Windows by Charles Petzold", it is a very thorough book on the Win32 API.
Hope this helps.
