My two cents are this:
Look into whatever field you want to go into first - try to learn some basic things about it. See if it really fascinates you. And then decide if you want to go into it. It may be that game design/game art/game programming are not what you envision now, though what you discover may be even more up your alley than whatever your preconcieved notions are.
Honestly, I''m considering a dual major or switching to History in school now, as I want to further more of my passions than just the programming, which lord knows I''ll continue doing regardless of what ever else I''m doing!
