Dear All, I have a bachelor''s degree in Software Engineering and am currently studying for a game development diploma. During the course we will produce a 3D game using an existing engine that we can use as a demo when trying to get a job. I would like to get a job with a game company as an engine programmer. Should I develop my own engine in my spare time or concentrate on making the game we produce this year top notch? Any thoughts are much appreciated. Regards, Hamish
some advice..

engine programmers tend to have experience and lots of it.

id concentrate more on making a kickass game.
try and push the engine youve got to its limits.
get it to do things it wasnt designed to do, even
if you have to jump through some serious hoops for
it to work. make whatever pieces of the project you
work on solid.

get your foot in the door. then worry about getting
onto the engine team..
