Ok, now it''s my turn to put in my $0.02.
I''ve got an AMD Duron 700 mHtz. with a POS 64 mb graphics card, and I run games like Quake III Arena at 800x600 with just about every graphics enhancement on, and I''ve yet to have even got a hiccup out of it, and I got it for like $300 (I had to build it myself though). AMD is ALOT cheaper than Pentium. As soon as I get up some money I''m going to upgrade it (mobo, processer, etc.) and I''ve been looking into prices, and a P4 2.53 mHtz will cost around $650, while an AMD XP 2200+ will only be around $150-190. Thats a big difference. Even if the AMD could only use RDRAM and say it''s twice as much. That means for 1 GB of RAM plus the processor it will be around $600. Thats still less than the P4 by itself.
Plus, we ahve 3 computers in my house, and all of them have AMD processors in them, and they''ve all ran fine (exept something I did to mess mine up, but we won''t get into that)
So thats what I have to say... and BTW.... AMD RULES!!!

Celeron sucks ''coz it don''t have the L2 cache.

Ive been interested in a fanbus for a while now. Can i buy a pre-constructed one or do i have to build myself?

In my experence the newer AMD cpus have more "bang for the buck" and are almost always cheaper for any given clockspeed. I found an AMD XP 1600 mobo + cpu combo from www.pricewatch.com awhile ago for dirt cheap and I get very occasional lockups but I''m happy with the performance overall.
No, the question should be which is of the 2 is lousier? If u make games and it runs fine on a lousy PC, then it is most likely to run fine on a faster machine.

Actually, ever since the CeleronA series (which was released very shortly after the original Celeron series), the Celerons HAVE had L2 cache. The coppermine celeron cpus had 128k L2 cache, the tualatin ones have 256k of L2 cache. Im unsure of what the current p4-based celerons have.

AMD isn''t cheaper when you have to buy DDR to use it. Yikes! I love AMD, personally. If I had the money, that''s the way I''d go, but I can''t afford the DDR.
No, I''m not a student. I''m just poor.
Well... I am a student(and poor), an I built a box for about $700 - 750 with AMD xp 1700+, 512 DDR, GF 3 ti200, SB live,
450W ect, and it moves pretty well. The P4 probably would have cost $100 to 200 more... That''s 2 months of bandwidth...
