ok now for my game i am at a crossroads in the design process Since the weapons and armors in the game can only be used if have the Rank required to use them i wondering this: Should you increase in rank when you reach a certain lvl, or should you increase in rank when you reach a certain number of victories? well, we don''t have any details about your system, but i would assume that levels would go up with victories, no?

not really

see in my combat system you can pick the lvl of the enemy you want to fight( like a random lvl from 10-15)

so you can lvl up 5 times with only winning 3 times if you fight a high lvl enemy

i think ill go with the victory system since it balances the game out i think

I''m against the fact that someone cannot use a weapon just because he doesn''t have the skill. He should use it but with less efficency.

That little nuisance is absent in my game
you can use every weapon but you might be better if you have higher strength, agility, etc

Choose your words more carefully, if it was a fact, you couldn''t be against it whether you liked it or not.

I agree with what you intended to say though, but there are those cases where a weapon is hopelessly beyond the capabilities of an unexperienced fighter. For example, a swordsman may know how to use a basic two handed sword, but until he attains great profficiency, he wont be able to make the jump to a claymore (extra handle two feet up the blade for more leverage), it''s just a more specialize way of fighting.

Though your statement is generally true, it sometimes contributes well to the overall feel of the game to have at least a few weapons that simply cannot be touched until the player knows how to use their predecessors well (has gained the rank needed to use them).

Honestly I think the Victory system is better. Why would the higher up really care about how many small fish died in one battle. They would look at the overall result. What would it matter if you killed 100 men if your side lost the overall battle
The road to hell is paved in good intentions
In the victory system could you not gain rank more easilly by killing weaker people?
