Cool Idea of mine!
Yes I have a very neat something here and I need to unleash it. I am only a programmer and so my skills in the field of design is not as good as many of you who specialize in the field...
So I would like you who wants to too flesh out this nice and very commerically attractive rps in to something full blown!
I main intention is not to make money, and therefore I work on this without any wage.
However, if we get some money out of this (might as well be) then the designers get to split their (currently) 33% share of the profits.
If I only get one designer he can take 33%, but remember that if money is the only thing that drives you, you have not fóund the right person!

I just re-read and I realized I forgot to tell you about my basic idea!
Well here goes...
I got the idea when playing a game called Battlezone 2.
It is a combination between a real time strategy game and a first person shooter game.
So I started looking thorugh some of the older designs I have created and I have realized that much I have written in the past fits in to this genre, but with differences!
I would like to make it 3rd person roleplaying game + strategy game instead! So you gain new levels, new armor and new weapons and build yourself much like in a regular rpg (Everquest), but you also have a base.
At the base you can with some kind of interface decide what to build and by talking to people of the village you can decide what they should do.
You build houses and then you build different types of guilds.
From one house you get a female villager, 2 kids, and a male villager.
By designating the male villager to the guild of say swordfighting, yuo would end up with a swordsfighter! (Much like Battle Realms really)
Anyway, then you can direct theese people to do things, like "follow me" or "hold/guard position" or "go to" and things like that.
Also, I would like the player to be god-like too. Or somekind of schaman or something. So he could playwith terrain, throw fireballs and do such things.
Multiplayer Deathmatches would be fun and very fast, while the single player mode would have deeper intrigues and cut-scens (probably in-game graphics style) between the scenarios to make it a lot more rpg-ish.
Sounds like a lot of good?
Oh its copyrighted too.

Umm...
It''s nice that you have an idea you like. We all have great ideas here, and we all think our ideas will be the wave of the future. This is why you will probably not be able to assemble a creative team from the forum populace. We''d all rather be working on our own ideas. If you want to make a game, the most surefire way is to make it yourself.
Of course, somebody could decide to help make your game and prove me wrong. Anything is possible. But I wouldn''t lay money on it.
If on the other hand you want comments and criticism on your idea, then you''ve come to the right place. Overall, I''d say your game sounds quite a bit like a cross between Sacrifice and Black and White. I''m sure it could be made playable and interesting, but it doesn''t seem very innovative to me. I''m sorry if I sound harsh but that is my opinion.
Good luck making your games come true.

You can''t have "civilization" without "civil".

I was kind of looking for critizm too....
Well, I just need to develop it more.
That is nothing I am good at, thats why I though ... I mean, you guys always has very (ive been lurking for a while) advanced opinions on balance, on units and on every thing.
It is true that my concept is not innovative.
It is basically a cross between a lot of games ... but unless you dont go massive multiplayer style (impossible for such an advanced concept!) there arent really more to add to it.
I was looking for way to change my favorite genre the RTS, quite a bit. I want to do that. Warcraft II was the first game that got me in its net, for real, and combinig that with Diablo II and Black & White could never taste bad, could it?
Oh, I have a concept behind the undead which I would rather not to mention on the board but it is very interesting i believe. Involves mad strategics it does!

And oh...
Did you build new buildings in sacrifice ?
Did you find new armor and level up in black and white ?
Did you get to self as your own CHARACTER in Startcraft ?
Did you ever duel that stinking orc in Warcraft ?

Moogle, do you already have a working engine prototype? or better, do you have an engine?
Your idea is nice, look at the old gameThe Horde for a similar thought. I like the idea of taking some guys from my town and pitching them against the local fauna. I don''t see how this model is related to adventuring though, if the player is tied down to a particular town it may be hard to have an broad storyline. It needs some more thought.

Are you in support of the ban of Dihydrogen Monoxide? You should be!

It sounds good, but at the same time slightly tedious to play. I''m not saying it''s bad, but it sounds like a mish-mash of several genres that could get awkward to manage.
Would there be a way to order people around without moving there yourself? If not, having to run all the way from the edge of your territory, pick up some swordsmen, and run all the way back could get very annoying.
Aquiring new eq for your character and leveling while running a village and an army could also prove to be a pain in the butt. Am I supposed to lead an army and manage a village or go after the Sword of Somewhatshisname?
What''s the emphasis on and how''s it all balanced? It seems like it''d be very easy for the RTS to eclipse the RPG and vice versa.
I never wanted to be my own character in Starcraft, nor did I want to duel an orc in Warcraft. I was too busy keeping my base safe and my army ready to go.
I wanna'' ride on the pope mobile.

Well the thing is that I have a very hard time translating my visions into text, but I will give it one more try.
It IS a mish mash of genres but that doesn not, in my opinion have to be a bad thing - if I do it well.
So for startsers I decided a good step would be a landscape engine, which right now basically contains of a heightmap with some trees and a skybox around it but it is growing every day but as I said I dont really have anything more than a concept.
As a war commander of a war in a fantasy setting, I am pretty sure you had to run everywhere and give orders.
But keep in mind that we could equip all units with a pretty fair AI.
If they see enemies coming they are just not gonna stand there. They are going to attack.
Also here is where the story line comes in.
The mision object will not always (almost never) just be search and destroy. The mission might just be to get the sword of whatever, so better get it done!
And Symphonic: Never played The Horde, but it sounds like I should visit the underdogs. I recall that being a really gory game if I am correct. I dont really have an engine but above you can read what I ve done coding wise...

You might like to take a look at warcraft 3 (www.blizzard.com). Your idea is similar to their new game in a few ways: real-time strategy, with rpg elements. But their game is headed towards more strategy than role-playing, while it seems like yours has more role-playing elements. In any case, it might be good to gather a few ideas from.

Sounds cool,
but wouldn´t be to much if your are walking around commanding armies control your village, see if every thing is going right you will be needing an god like view, i´m sure of that.
War3, look at that, they will create almost every thing what you said accept rpg like but i think (as the same whit SC) its to busy to do al the same from eye perspective, at god perpspective O.K. but eye?.....
Nope to busy..
stick to controlling armies or controlling village else to difficult.
Or do all in multiplayer so that 2-6 people control the town, armies, etc. would be much easier to play...
