Animation In 3DS File

Hi, I need some guides on how to playing Character Studio Animation that contained in .3DS files. I'm using quaternion system in my engine and I need to know what to do with the geometry data that forms the Biped object to animate it correctly. I've rotated each part of biped object with its own rotation but it doesn't animated like it should, also in addition I've rotate it with its parent's rotation but that's not working too. I have no experience with CS, but shouldn''t you just execute the rotation/translation/scaling information contained in the .3DS? AFAIK .3DS has no support for bone systems and the like.
