Feedback on Horror Music

Hello,

I've been creating music for many years now but I have decided that I would like to start scoring video games.

Would like to know if my style of music is something that you could imagine working well with a horror game.

Here is a link to a song of mine: https://adamklimt.bandcamp.com/track/eternal

Please let me know what you think. Open to any criticisms 🙂

Hey Adam,

There's some definitely great stuff in here and it would work very well in certain games. I'm especially hearing some Silent Hill vibes here. There's also a problem: it's very sparse.

This isn't an issue if this was one track of many but this particular track is very much an underscore approach. On it's own, it's hard to really define an iconic part. Could an average listener (someone without much musical/audio training) pick your song out from other similar tracks?

I do think this could work well for certain parts of a game but listen to Theme of Laura from Silent Hill 2. It's super iconic. I think what would help is to take this same, ambient approach and see if you can red thread in some moments that are much more iconic.

If this is just an exercise in learning how to write in this style - you've done a great job! If you wanted to push this to the next level and, perhaps, market/sell this to game devs then I would encourage you to create a suite of themes that can work together well - some underscore, some quite melodic.

All in all, however, solid stuff! I enjoyed it!

@nsmadsen Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and share your thoughts.

I'm a big fan of Akira Yamaoka, so I'm not surprised it's coming through.

It's definitely an underscore and not something asking for strict attention. But I agree that it lacks anything truly memorable. Maybe it will help to make the synth line at the end a more prominent element.

I have experience with more noticeable music, I'll call it, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyaLivoujfk&ab_channel=AdamKlimt - but I probably wouldn't approach a game developer with it. Yet, maybe they would hear the creative potential.
