I'm not an expert at DirectX. I come from the IT world. I'm part of a team developing a 2D game. I've been called in to try and figure out why two of our beta testers were having graphics problems. Most of the code was written by someone else.
The text on the Preference page shows up with black blocks for all the text and the map in the game just draws as solid green. The icons that show up on the map do show up. Most of the graphics calls are Blt and BltFast.
We bought the same hardware as one of the computers that were having problems. I have it here and it reproduces the problem out of the box. The laptop has two graphics chips, the Intel Iris built into the processor and a fairly high end Nvidia chip. I discovered that the Intel GPU runs by default and it takes some tricks to get the Nvidia to work. When I disabled the Intel GPU, the Nvidia kicked in and the game worked like it does on every other computer.
Both of the computers that are having problems have Intel Iris Graphics. I'll paste the DxDiag report for each at the bottom of this message. I did find a customer on Intel's forum complaining about the Intel Iris not working with another DirectX game. His solution was to install DXVK.
Is there any way around this or do people with these graphics cards need to install DXVK?
