Hello all!

I’m looking to snag a pixel artist and a programmer to work on this project that is specifically designed to help people break into the games industry! Experience preferred, but none necessary. Having a game on Steam that your interviewer can play is the ultimate resume. This would be a revenue sharing project with a timeline of 12-18 months.

About the game:

Like the title says, this is a 2D top down pixel art game. You are a researcher that has been sent to a habitat in orbit around an exotic system that you share with a small community. Everyone can be involved in the creative process if they want; there are a fair amount of things that have not been fleshed out and all ideas are welcome from team members!

It will be an outer space sim that includes researching, farming, mining, combat, and lots of exploration. We want the game’s main focuses to be exploration and discovery, player’s self expression, and player driven challenges with different avenues to explore the game.

Core game loops would be:
Explore to > find new resources to spend > to unlock new resources > to explore

Perform an action to > unlock resources > to unlock functionality

Our current progress:

At the moment we are 2.5 months in and wrapping up our first phase of the prototype, which will include farming (planting, harvesting), research, crossbreeding of plants, and combat. Most of our first month was getting the initial design down and working on base architecture.

About the team:

Currently we have eight team members;

The team will be mentored by David, an extremely experienced game developer with over 25 years experience who is currently a director at (unnamed studio). He has backgrounds in art, tech art, programming, engineering, tools, game design, levels, and cinematics. He will be acting as an Executive Producer, and will be there to teach us how all the things work.

Our narrative person is Penny, she is currently a game producer at (unnamed studio) with 9 years experience in the position. She is also a published author of Perspective of Identity, a great book that you should give a read if you’re into sci fi.

Our sound guy, Ephrem, has been making music for 20 years and recording for 18 years. Some of his work can be heard here (https://jetpacksamurai.bandcamp.com/album/wander)

Our artist is John, he has a lot of experience with pixel art and animation. Here is some of his work for the game. (https://imgur.com/a/dfYPpzw#8dfELxm)

Our two programmers are Matt and Mike, both very knowledgeable in the realm of programming and Unreal and have been working hard on the base architecture of the game.

Our level designer and 2nd game designer is Tony, he has worked on mods before this project and has done a lot for our game and level design.

My name is Ana, and my roles in the project are game design and production. I am an executive assistant to David, with heavy experience in communication and planning.

Who we need:

We are looking for a programmer and a pixel artist to join our team. As stated above, experience is preferred but little/none is necessary. This is a learning project for all. We are working with Unreal Engine 5.2. We are also working in Slack, Confluence, and using GitHub for revision control, so having access/willingness to learn and use these programs is a must to make sure that everyone is working together cohesively. Do not fret if you are unfamiliar; we can show you the ways!

Thanks for reading, and please reach out if you are interested!
