@fleabay Yeah this exactly. I don't think nitpicking over terminology is the most productive use of my time. Game development is super hard as it is. At least if you want to succeed. Spending time on things that can be avoided spending time on is a large contributor of success imo.

A friend of mine is also a game developer. He does everything ‘by the book’. He got burned out multiple times because of that and currently only has 1 game done that's not making any sales or getting any results. So yeah, i'd much rather spend this time talking to a programmer to see what his future goals are and if its worth it for us both to work together.

That said i just spent 5 mins on this topic anyway writing this so i'm only human as well and i cant resist everything :P

Games industry is more correct, than gaming industry.

I just remember i've had this same experience in my german language. I'll tell you…

I don't know which time it was. Maybe something in between 2000 and 2010.
I was browsing german gaming (sorry) sites. And i realized they called the activity of playing video games ‘zocken’. The term is still common, and i've noticed some of my friends use it too. Personally i don't, because i don't like it.
Personally i associate the term ‘zocken’ with playing card games for money, so gambling. That's where it comes from. Maybe that's also why i don't like it's use - i never thought about it. However - it's the exact same case that bothers you, just in another language.

In english it's different to me. When the internet came available to me, basically the same time this website here has started, playing video games always was called ‘gaming’ by everybody. At least this is how it feels to me.
I never thought gaming could be associated with gambling, until you have pointed it out recently.
And i always used the term gaming for what i do without any concerns, and i'll continue to do so. I think it's fine to say ‘gaming’. It's even a honor that this word now is associated mainly (if not exclusively) to video games, not other games like board games, card games, and probably gambling neither.

It's like we won a word for us. Maybe Casinos should be upset we stole their word, idk, but not the other way around.

I still don't use or like the word ‘zocken’ though, but i can live with it.
Probably you can only accept ‘gaming’ as well. It's all you can do, and much better than hijacking serious posts with off topic stuff! \;p/

I think your programming colleagues should add some features to make your moderation work easier. E.g. giving you ability to unlist necroed topics, so they don't keep sticking on top, inviting further comments.
Requiring to have made 10 forum posts before one can post spam blog posts (or even just links) would be another idea and is pretty common elsewhere.

Would be much better help then assisting you with moderation directly - an attempt that totally didn't work from my experience. >:(
