Sigh, you all fail to listen sometimes I''m not asking which is better, or which one "better suits me"..I was just asking if there was any chance of OpenGL becoming obsolete (which I safely assume is wrong now, heh) so that I didn''t learn the language only to find out there was no point in using it.
BUT - use whatever you are most comfortable with. With OpenGL 2.0 on the horizon, I think it''s a safe bet that DirectX will be playing catchup for a long time to come ... again
this is why we should of stuck to programming in machine language hexadecimal opcodes, so that idiots like this clown wouldn''t be POST garbage like this.

No better way to call someone an idiot then by not even doing so in correct English. If that sentence is what you''d call smart, I''d rather be an "idiot". Go back to 3rd grade English kid.
Just wait for OpenGL 2.0. (be a while, but still )
Yes, Direct X 8 is more appealing to game developers now than OpenGL is. And there has always been a sterotype that GL is only really good for FPS''s, which doesn''t help... (I can only think of 1 major flight sim that used GL - for example)...
The Quake 3 engine is OpenGL and thats been used for many a game now. I expect Doom 3 will also be, so I dont think it will be leaving us just yet (I''ll have to check-up on that though).
As for flightsims and such there are projects like this http://www.projectmagenta.com/ that are using OpenGL. Also places like SGI recently announced some major stuff that is using OpenGL.
