Low Poly trees - where to find them???
I am having a really hard time trying to find low polygon (50-150 polys) on the net. I''ve looked at all the usual places like 3dcafe, and searched on google, but all the trees we find are high poly for rendering. Best we found so far was 500 polygons.
Does anyone know where I can find 3 or 4 different low polygon trees quite quickly? We did find a package that can do it but its expensive and has to be shipped (we need them *quickly* and can''t rely on the postal system).
I will have the babies of anyone who helps (even though its not physically possible!)
I have been looking for something similar. I have considered making my own, but I am not very good with textures, and I need to buy milkshape 3d.
I was also unable to find any tree models on the net. At least free ones..
There is also a discussion about this in the lounge..

i did this stuff in like 5 minutes...literally...so dont say hey it dont look lifelike....its under 150 poly's....if you want less poly's i suggest using the cardboard cutout method of making the trees flat with a see through texture
the picture of model is at

link to zip wont work for some reason?..so here's the url

i guess geoshities does suck?
to make dif trees just mangle the vertexes on the tree and change the texture ...any queries etc...post here or email mrludo@hotmail.com

Why dont you try creating fractal trees ? Then you can set the detail level and poly count depending on the tree''s distance from the camera.

I saw an interesting article on opengl.org about semi 3d billboarded trees based off of layered renderings of complex geometry... you might want to check that out (looked pretty cool).

I'm sure there was another link, but I was able to find a psuedo-billboarding method in action... check out the stills/animation at:

The problem with billboards is that when you get close to them, they have no volume. I generated some trees with some free utilities, and they looked good, but also in the 1000''s of polygons. Both utilities ("treemaker" and "treegens") also produce double sided polygons for the branches, kind of wasteful. "treemaker" also doesn''t double side the leaves. So, basicly, the generators are not very useful for realtime games.
