Kim Davis denies a marriage license to an atheist couple
“If I understand the standard right it is legal and safe to do this but the resulting value could be anything.”
How does she keep her job? Why isn't she fired?
Because she is an elected official and can’t be fired, only impeached.
As for the subject, even if it were true, it wouldn’t be a news story—she denies licenses to all couples.

You did read the article, didn't you. It's a prank (a prank that tries to masquerade itself as a discussion on headlines)
That aside, she likely has no job now if you can trust CNN, which reported that she went to jail for pulling that stunt on a gay couple in 2011.
While the governor stated that he had no legal authority to remove her, her term should be over by now, and even in Kentucky I deem it unlikely that she will be re-elected (you can still marry your cousin in Kentucky, can't you?).
Off topic, but what kind of bureaucratic nightmare is this where a lowly municipal administrator has the ability to enforce religious law over what should be a national registration system? And further, where they can't be fired becauee you have elected representatives performing simple filing work??Because she is an elected official and can’t be fired, only impeached. How does she keep her job? Here, you become public officer by applying to some particular job and via some obscure (obscure to me) procedure involving seniority, oaths and secret handshakes (OK, I made the secret handshake up!). Most "employees" in public positions like the registry are officers. Teachers become officers after 3 years (don't kill me if it's 4 years, I'm not 100% sure, but it's something like that, friend of mine is teacher could ask him). Similar for police, although I don't know how long it takes to get that status. Somewhat less than one half of the postal service is officer. They've been trying to phase those out since 1994 (when the postal service was formally privatized and almost 100% were public officers), but that is not an easy task. Basically all they can do is not hire new officers and wait for the existing ones to go to pension.
You can tell exactly which clerk at the post office is an officer and which one isn't by their "yeah you know what, fuck you because I don't care" attitude.
And then, once you are officer, you have that position for life. Unless you go on strike (which is explicitly forbidden for public officers, but they are always on de-facto strike anyway), you can do just about anything you want, there is nothing short of running amok and killing a dozen people that can get you fired.
The worst thing that can happen to you -- if someone files a complaint about a really harsh thing you've done wrong and that complaint doesn't disappear in limbo -- is that you get your next promotion a year later. To compensate for that shock, you should definitively request another one or two weeks of convalescent care (in addition to the two weeks that you are taking anyway). A good time for that would be after you return from your very stressful educational leave.
I heard (that may be a hoax, but they do have a huge apparatus of officers, so I don't deem it entirely impossible) that in Greece, even garbage collectors are public officers.
Ah, so you read through, and choose what steps you'd like to follow.
Please tell me you're not a programmer. You don't "choose what steps you'd like to follow", you follow the instructions...
The reason he is a programmer is EXACTLY why he thinks like that. "Lay people" would just read all, read 25, smile and write their name, because they are so smart.
I'm with him, I would behave like a robot... I follow the instructions 1, 2, 3...
Step [1] says "read all steps before performing any of them". Ok, I'll read them. Done. I've read them. (I'm of course not executing any of them, I'm just reading them, choosing any arbitrary instruction to read and execute would be a very non-robot thing to do). I mean, there's a reason these are called STEPS.
Step [2] "Draw circles around all of the even numbers." Ok, I'm drawing circles...
....
Step [25]. "Do not perform steps 2 through 24". Ok, I'm not performing them (wasn't gonna anyway, I'm on [25]). Silly human, do you think I do not know how to follow instructions?!.
So, yeah, I'm with DifferentName on this one. I would be the asshole arguing about a the proper way to read this test.

Oh oh, I've just performed the first task. (screams and jumps out of window)
(Note, the word "following" is important, otherwise there is no way you can perform the assignment correctly)

Hahaha =). You're right, I should've copy pasted if I was gonna get into: "well.. technically...".
var steps2To24 = new Action(()
There's no reason to put steps 2-24 in their own script instead of performing them. A computer program follows steps in order, and there's nothing in step 1 telling you that steps 2-24 should only be performed if another instruction tells you to, or that you should skip ahead to step 25. The last line of code does not take precedence over previous ones, or prevent previous lines from happening.

Well said!
Radiant Verge is a Turn-Based Tactical RPG where your movement determines which abilities you can use.
"any" can also mean "pick one" :)read all steps before performing any of them
So: "read all steps, and then choose one to perform"
