Technically, socially and gameplay wise, has anyone played it?

It's an isometric 3d, 3rd person, shooter game that has been hyped to crap thanks to it's theme.

From what I have personally seen, the game play looks generic and repetitive.

The graphics look alright, though some things seem to be modeled out of proportion.

"Blood and violence" is relatively low - being passed up by games such as 'Hotline Miami' .

Note: In my personal opinion, if you want to play a 'shocking and disturbing' game, go for 'The Evil Within' .

It's kind of like postal with better graphics. Honestly, they did a bad job going for shock value. You can't kill the elderly/infirm/cripples/animals/children.

A mission from postal let you run around with a flamethrower burning children.

The crazy part is that it managed to get an AO rating just for mild gore and theme.

Eh, I played postal. Don't need to rush out and do that again.
It's been a while since somone played the "shock game" card. A new generation can get their shock value. As long as it's labelled as an adult product.

The lighting/shading did look nice from the trailer I saw.

Hotline Miami was mentioned above - while obviously violent, I didn't find it shocking or offensive, probably due to the retro art and attempts to bind it into an arthouse storyline. It's violent gameplay was also extrmely well designed as to be very fun/challenging/hard/skillful.
I haven't played hatred, but I've not heard any publicity mentioning it's great game design.

My opinion of it? A publicity stunt hidden in a doo-doo nougat.

Actually looks surprisingly fun from a gameplay perspective. There's destructible stuff everywhere and it's quite a spectacle when you start shooting. Guns have proper oomph, the random cries of despair add a lot to the atmosphere, etc. Technically it seems like solid work all around. Good voice acting for what they're trying to do, color palette fits their theme. The game is pretty, too. The fire/smoke effects and how police car and store lighting breaks up the gray tone of the image looks very pretty.

Will be interesting to see how people react to it critically once it's actually out. What do you do with a game that you hate thematically but really like gameplay wise?

I haven't played it, so perhaps it's unfair to criticize the gameplay. But my impressions are the same as everyone else - it's a shock value item. I would be very surprised to find an actual solid game underneath but who knows. Personally I won't be playing it because I don't like being played by this type of marketing. This game was designed from the outset to get a rise out of people.

Like everyone else here has said, it's trying to capitalize on shock value. I personally don't play games that make me feel uncomfortable, so I won't be playing this one. Beyond that it looks like a pretty straightforward shooter.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

If anyone cares, here is a decent 'Let's Play' of this game

I bought it, but yet to play it. Thought my laptop was powerful enough to run it, but I was wrong.
