32 Bit Color

Do enough people now have 32 bit graphics cards to make it safe to use in games? is your game 2D or 3D? if it''s 2D, then everyone should have 32bit color. if it''s 3D, then most people won''t have support for it. only the newer cards have it. if you''re doing 3D, either have support for both color depths or just use 16bit. if you''re not doing much blending, you won''t even notice a difference.

Very true. I can run mine in 16, 24, or 32 and rarely can I see a difference in anyone of the 3.

Well, I''m running a Voodoo3, and when running a 32 bit I get incredible instability. (Yes, I have the latest drivers). I''m sure there are lots of people like me who would thank you if your game ran in 16 bit as well.

Besides, I''m color blind and that extra 16 bits of gray scale really doesn''t do much for me.
Maybe this is just mine opinion, but if you develop a 2D game i think 16-bits are quite sufficient. It saves both speed, hard disk space and memory not using 32-bits. But then again, you wont have the very annoying 555/565 issue. In 3D my opinion is that supporting both 16 and 24/32 is the best.
