Direct Draw surface buffer alignment.

I am basically wondering if there is a way to tell ddraw to align newly created secondary surfaces to 8/16 or 32-byte boundries. I couldn''t find any caps that would do this so I''m hoping there is another way. I''m coding MMX operations on the back buffer and if I can align the back buffer to an 8-byte boundry, memory access should become about 20-40% more efficent (according to these Intel docs).
