Hello, a friend of mine mentioned to me he used to play this game, and has been looking for it for a while.

Any of you have any ideas where we might be able to buy a copy? Digital Download

(Saw Amizon has it on CD)

Edit:

it's actually Civil War Generals 2: Grant, Lee, Sherman and she remembered it wrong

And I can't edit the title.

Edit:

Could a moderator change the title to "looking for Civil War Generals 2"?

This form doesn't seem to allow full editing as some forums do.

ebay lists a bunch of them.

Note that the game was made for the Windows 95/98 era. Google says you need some patches if you want to play on anything after Windows 98. The patches were made for Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and unfortunately break the ability to save games in Vista and later.

So unless you have Windows 98 in a virtual machine (which many old-school gamers use) or an XP box handy, you probably will have a hard time enjoying the game on a modern machine.

Can't we just switch the compatibility in the properties?

The .net framework is incompatible.

The game will continue to crash unless you can figure out how to set up an emulator like DOS Box appropriately .

I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.

Sometimes that helps, but not always, and not fully.

In my limited experience, it usually doesn't work for me... but works just occasionally enough that it's still worth bothering to try when you have a problem.

I have this somewhere -- box and everything. IF I can find it you can have it for shipping (USPS).

Nor for me, but there are lots of DOSBox gurus. Somebody can set you straight.

Edited to Add: Found it!

Indie games are what indie movies were in the early 90s -- half-baked, poorly executed wastes of time that will quickly fall out of fashion. Now go make Minecraft with wizards and watch the dozen or so remakes of Reservior Dogs.

Do you mean you found

Sid Meier's Gettysburg

or

it's actually Civil War Generals 2: Grant, Lee, Sherman

AS I edited my OP, my friend was mistaken, she's looking for the 2nd one, and mistook SMG for it.

Although I do consider time the most valuable resource, it's never a waste of it when we atempt to help each other out.

Thanks for the thoght.

That title sounds horribly familiar... Now I have to try and remember to check my old CD collection to see if I have it kicking around.

And then I shall have to set up an old computer and go play it if I do.
