DirectX book
Hi,
I''m new to direcctX and was wondering what you guys could recommend in the way of learning books. I want a detailed explanation of whats going on and an up to date book also.
ECKILLER
Try:
1.) Windows Game Programming for Dummies by Andre Lamothe
or
2.) SAMS Teach Yourself DirectX 7 in 24 Hours by Robert Dunlop
Choice number 1 is probably the best and more detailed of two. The Sams book is a bit confusing in certain areas and covers DirectX lightly. I also believe Andre Lamothe has a newer book out and you might want to check that out as well.
Both are available from Amazon.com
Good luck!

Another good book is Inside DirectX. It doesn''t cover Direct3D, but a companion book coming soon will.
It covers DirectX 5.1, which already seems old, but since Microsoft is releasing a new version of DirectX about every 6 months, it''s going to be hard to find a book that is up to date.
This book is better used in companion with one of the other books mentioned above, but it will give you a much more thorough description on DirectX.

Most of the development/changes in DirectX these days is on the D3D end of things so the Inside DirectX book is probably
still okay as a reference for most of the other components. Anything brand new will be documented in the Help files that come with whatever flavor of DX you''re using so between the two (or 3 or 4 if you grab the other books mentioned too) you should be fine. Hope this helps.
