Cost of modelling

Hi all

I would like to commission someone to do some character modelling for me. I have some test models that I use but I would really like to get some professionally done.

Could anyone please tell me what I should think about paying for this? And whether this is a good site to try and find a modeller? Any other sites that might be better?

I essentially need a male and female rigged character.

Thanks
Rob

Thanks Ashaman, that looks interesting. Problem is, I need a variety of relatively high-detailed clothing done too

In this case employing an artist would be really expensive. An artist earns around ~60-80k a year, as freelance maybe even more, and high-detailed models are really time consuming (AAA games invest several millions on art per title !). It is not hard to see, that handmade, high-detailed models will be really expensive ( 4 digits at least).

I would sugguest to take a look at other software packages first, like Poser .

PS: And this great piece of software: Fuse

I was kind of hoping for someone who is just starting out, something for their portfolio and also some money in their back pocket.

I have been doing modelling and rigging for a little while now and I'm getting fairly comfortable with the tools. My models aren't too bad and perfectly ok for testing but I need to get moving on other parts of the game which is why I thought I might offer out the commission.

That fuse software looks pretty slick. I have my own inertia-based motion capture system so I only need rigged models rather than the sort of things poser can produce.

Thanks
The two best software for this are Quidam Studio for characters and Marvelous Designer for clothes.

They call me the Tutorial Doctor.

The guy wants to hire someone! There are plenty of reasons to hire people; he's even named a few.

It's fair enough to not want to do the work yourself, but still want to have personalized and professional assets for your game!

I'd suggest looking for a freelancer. This forum has a Classifieds; try there. Polycount also has professional level artists haunting their Work Opportunities subforum.

All else fails, a little googling and linked-in stalking might turn up some results. If you want someone good you're probably going to be paying per hour, or perhaps per asset. Good luck finding someone that suits your needs and budget! I'd be open with them about what you can pay, and work with them on it, based on their prior experience and how much time it's going to take them.
