[Programming] When you come across a problem that neither you nor anyone near you knows how to solve, do you ask for others to help you?

Usually, questions stating that "I need help in this code.", or "I don't know to do this, can one show me examples?", etc., are posted/asked in GameDev.net, Stack Overflow, etc. programming sites.

Many times when I come across programming errors, and I don't know how to fix it, I usually try to convey my problem to others and ask for them to help me out. Sometimes, I get answers, good or bad. And sometimes, no responses whatsoever.

I am starting to think of myself as someone who is really dependent on others to tell me where I'm doing wrong. The main issue to what contributes to this, is that programming alone tends to be unaware of mistakes I'm making, and that no one is there to tell me what I did wrong when the error occurs.

I know the feeling. I used to post about every error I got back when I first started programming back in 2007 (with DarkBASIC). After a while, it felt like I wasn't the one truly programming, because I became too reliant on help from other people.

Now, though, I only post when it's something I've tried solving for a good little while on my own - and usually, the problem isn't even with my code, it's generally something up with Unity. :P

Now if I get stuck, I sit back, take a break, think about it, and if my solutions don't work I'll google it to see if anyone else had the problem. If they did and I find an answer, I'll generally try to use it, but I can't always because sometimes it means an entire re-write.

While I'm in conscription, without my computer, I have to rely on Google-fu to find a reasonable answer to my problems. But I always have to resort to asking people.

Are you still like this? Or you have stepped up your game? rolleyes.gif

I think I've stepped up my game a bit, but I do still ask for help when I truly need it. If I don't know how to do something I'll try to find tutorials to help myself get a grasp of it.
