Do you ever get tired of winning the same argument over and over again?

Looks like you replied while I edited the post. I should have edited a bit more before posting the reply, sorry. The edit probably addresses what you wrote.

I also learned that if you are too dismissive, then they will often continue to hunt you down.

Don't be dismissive. Be indifferent. There is a huge difference. Dismissive can be interpreted as "I know better than you, neener neener neener!" Indifference can be interpreted many different ways at first, but if they persist then showing indifference is like arguing with a rock. No amount of shouting at the rock will elicit a meaningful response.

I will use a variation of the above, and flee. This subject, however, is not something I'm going to run away from because my patience with people who deploy such tactics is growing thin. So I'd rather stomp it into the ground, and prevent them from getting back up.

You don't need to convince them, and they don't need to convince you. Nobody needs convincing. There is no point to the discussion. It serves no purpose. Remember that.

There is no need to flee because the discussion is pointless. Fleeing would be a statement. There is no need to stomp them into the ground, that is also a statement. If there is no purpose to the discussion, you can politely ask them to end it. If they still continue, just remove yourself from the situation; perhaps "I'll go talk a walk to give you some time to calm down", or "thanks for spending time with me, but I I'm starting to think of other things I'd rather do right now". Again, these are not statements about your viewpoints, they are statements that your socialization is voluntary and you find their persistence to talk about a fruitless topic to be a waste of your valuable time.

Would I agree or disagree? Depends on the evidence you bring to the table. Using that is how I weigh a opinion's/hypothesis's validity.

well i cannot give the 'evidence' whwr the summer middle day should be, but i gave you some 'rationale' or some base of my

view: can only repeat "IMO (and I am sure of that) 21 June as

an longest day in the year should be treated not as a first day of the summer but a middle day of the summer, summer should be defined as a 1/4 of the year when days are the longest, and 21 june is thus a middle day of the summer, not a first day as people treats this... Do you really agree or do you not really agree wit that? (If no this is strange becouse you perself do not agree with logical argument ;\ I am asking becaouse im curious)

Where are you from that people are treating the middle of summer as the start. Everyone I know and I mean everyone starts summer in May arguably start of June but certainly not the end of June. That is such a bizzare thing for people to disagree with. And the same goes for winter.

Well im from some country in central europe, everyone here says beginning of the summer is about 21 june (it is always broadcasted in tv/radio etc) - i thought it is global terminology , though i see now in wiki some cultures - treat it more the way i argue it should be - if 21 june is the middle the beginning of summer should be 1.5 month before this is about 6th may)

in the context of this topic i say this becouse i often argue this

with some lazy talks with people and no fc*n one takes this

logical argumentation - people seem to be not interested in logic (I really do not know what they are interested in )

I think I've broken your secret code so I've rewritten the conversation. I'm fairly tired though so I might be a bit off and some details don't quite fit.

Them: Why don't you write a Pong clone? You really should...

Me: Because I don't want to.

Them: Don't you want to be a game developer? You really should do it.

Me: No. I've taken a logical perspective on reality. What incentive do I have to write a Pong clone?

Them: You know, it will make you more experienced.

Me: Quite frankly, the risk of writing a Pong clone is a contradiction of logic and facts.

Them: That's not true!

Me: If it's not true, then tell me, what benefit is there for me to write a Pong clone? Why should I?

Them: You know... because!

Me: No I don't; because what?! That's why I'm asking you!

Them: You know, our industry wants us to write Pong clones.

Me: You know what? our industry expects us to learn C++! Guess what I did? I learned Python. Worked out really nice, didn't it?

Them: You just need to learn to do what's expected of you because people don't know how to evaluate you unless you do.

Me: So I can end up like <insert the name of some poor bastard here>? No, I don't think so! Don't you know that there's a 50% chance of death, as well as a 70% chance of failure at getting the ball physics just right, oh and let's not forget the 30% alien abduction rate too. Even if I did want to write a Pong clone, it's like playing Russian roulette. Call it a good thing if you want. Even if it is, I'm not willing to write a Pong clone because it is not of interest to me. I have more important things to worry about, and this is not one of those things. Lastly, if writing a Pong clone is so important to my career, then how come I've been able to make such fine progress without it? Hm?

Them: Well, you really need to change your views on writing Pong clones, it's really sad. Pong is the greatest thing ever!

I think you get three types of people whom you have this conversation with.
1. The ones that are certain about the way things should be and need to direct things to such.
2. The ones that are probing for info.
3. The ones that genuinely think they are helping you.

For people of type 1, you're probably not going to convince them your point of view has merit as they have already decided that they are right. I suggest turning the conversation to being about them. For any given question or point where the conversation is directed at you, respond with "I don't know," and then ask them questions to get them to volunteer as many opportunities as possible to direct the conversation away from yourself. In the above conversation, rather than pointing out the 50% rate of death as a means of affirming your stance (and attempting to destabilize theirs), ask them about their experiences and opinion about it. At some point you will have talked with that person long enough, meeting your social obligation, and can excuse yourself from them hopefully to avoid that person further.

Type 2 people, could just be trying to just make conversation. In which case I think the suggestion for type 1 people would still work. But this group could also cover people that are just trying to get updates about you because they want to know what's going on. In such a case, it's up to you what degree of privacy you want to exercise, however offering up details you're comfortable with, perhaps ones detailing why you're focused on something other than a Pong clone, might be sufficient to satisfy the individual's curiosity.

Type 3 people actually have your best interests at heart, even though they're probably mistaken about what really is best for you. I think a combination of the suggestions for type 1 & 2 people would be the way to go with an emphasis on highlighting that you are on the course that you've set for yourself.

I do agree that the expectation that everyone should have written a Pong clone by a certain point in their life as a game programmer is ridiculous. Though you can get a lot out of it, it's not the only means for everyone's goals. But given that it's an experience that a significant number of game developers go through, it's not unreasonable to be questioned about it and it's not unreasonable to expect a degree of professionalism when arguing against the need for it in your portfolio.

I noticed few years ago and i am saying to people sometimes that 21 June (or about) should be really treated as a middle day of the summer not the beginning of the summer, same with 21 december (longest night day) should be treated as a middle day of the winter not the beginning of the winter

An argument against calling those days the middle of season might be that although calling the day the middle of the season is appropriate in that you're describing the Earth's position in orbit, a significant number of people when discussing the seasons are likely doing so in context of the weather which (though affected by other factors) should be exhibiting the expected attributes associated with the season by the day sufficiently that it can be declared as "the beginning".

this is logical for me

I say this to more than 10 people matbe almost 20 (and give
explanation that summer should be 1/4 of a year with longest days, winter with shortest) and guess what, NOBODY agreed
with me - I do not encounter as to today not 1 person who
will be agreeing with me here,

could i maybe test some people here?;/ would you agree or
disagree?

Here's the kicker... did you ask WHY they didn't agree with you? They might have perfectly valid reasons (like for instance, the idea that the seasons are related to the agricultural cycle, not the earths position).

That is a dangerous thing to ask, could make the argument completely unneeded. Though, when someone is scared to tell the topic of the argument, but say they have it all the time and think it will start just by saying the argument topic...I can only assume that if they constantly argue this mystery topic that it is an argument solely for the drama factor.

It is impossible to give an objective point of view on this argument because every subject has different reasonings and logics for being for or against it: religion, same sex marriages, prayer in school, pledge in school, random drug screening, etc.

dont think so if agricultural cycle is valid reason here. I asked why they do not get my argumentation of course, they just contradicted my rationale but did not hold their arguments,
so they just deny with no valid arguments - just something like you do here, you mention some vague contrarguments not giving real one as you dont get mine (this is some illustration of people taking no arguments, and it is maybe fun if oryginal asker writing that people do not get arguments himself do not get this argument ;/ )

Gee, with a condescending attitude like that, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to entertain your idea.

This is a good example of how not only opinion but also truth is highly subjective.

First of all, the official beginning of summer and winter is defined, especially in certain countries in central europe, just like it is defined when daylight saving time starts and ends. If you say anything different, even if you are correct, you are wrong by dogma.

Second, there are at least 3 possible different definitions (probably more) of summer and winter: dogma, the orientation of Earth's rotational axis, and the "cold season before the re-awakening of nature" and the "warm season before harvest".

Third, none of these is set in stone. The latest definition is demonstrably changing over a very short, well-observable period of time. Winter happens about 2 months later now than it did when I was a child. Around 21 december, we used to have -5 to -10°C, nowadays it's more like +8 to +10°C mid-december. The stupefied greens call this "global warming", but it's not really about warming, on the contrary. It's about shifting, and larger extremes. Nowadays, we have -10 to -20°C, but we see them in early february. So "winter" is actually colder, and happens later. Similar is true for summer.

Earth's rotational axis is most likely changing as well (well, it is certainly changing, what I mean to say is that the wobble is likely changing, too) in a similar way as its angular momentum is changing too (so from some point of view, "time" changes, since our days and years get longer as Earth rotates more slowly), but all that happens too slowly so any of us will notice a difference during their lifetime.

So, depending how you look at it, either answer is correct or incorrect.
