I noticed you said failure. As in we're taught failure is a bad thing. That's true, failure is akin to operating heavy machinery drunk, and many people will suffer from this negligence, it's sabotage / murder. That's probably what school really taught us.
What I heard a teacher say out loud in college is that mistakes are not encouraged in society, so we avoid trying things outside our comfort zones.
When you observe some guy jump in a pool fully clothed you probably think "what a fool" he forgot his shoes. Until some girls jump in with him. You might wonder what his secret is, that was not supposed to happen, it never happens, and you still don't want to do it because that's a new pair of shoes for every pool you jump into.
