They take proud in buying something that costs more than actually is, because means they dont care, like they have enough to the price not be a problem to them.

But thats not the only problem, the other half of the problem is that you dont have any choice other than giving up on the stuff you want to buy

2) PS4: US$ 399,00 + taxes ( as I remember NY taxes is about 7.5 or 8% ) Total = US$ 430,00

Well.. I can spend a weekend at NY and buy my PS4 on USA ( no taxes to bring it to Brazil as the ps4 price is lower than threshold imposed by Brazil Government to importing stuff ) and it still cheaper than buying in Brazil...

The threshold for requiring an import tax in Brazil is US$ 50.

Anything above this value and you're required to pay 60% of the total value of the package (including shipping, if it applies).

If you sneak through and are not caught in the airport customs, then you don't have to pay taxes.

But if they ask to check your luggage and find that product, then you'll have to pay the import tax for it.

You should have a receipt for it, or else they'll have to research the general value for the product, which in some cases can be more than what the product actually costs if you've originally gotten it with a discount or similar.

You shouldn't have to pay import tax on electronics you already own and have paid tax for in the country of origin.

Humm the U$50,00 threshold for importing is when you send something by 'mail/fedex/etc'... for example.. if I buy something from Amazon, and the item will be shipped from USA to Brazil, I will pay 100% taxes if the item value exceed U$50,00.

When you take a flight you have U$500,00 limit to 'import' stuff ( to bring home the stuff you bought 'cross border' ).... Above this value you must pay taxes... for example, if you buy something for U$600,00 and you declare it ( you don't try to sneak ) you will pay taxes about the exceeding U$100... so... the final value will be: U$500,00 + ( U$ 100 * 1.5 ) = U$ 650,00 ( 50% taxes on U$100 )

If you try to sneak the stuff, and you are caught, you will pay 100% taxes on the full price... U$600 * 2 = U$ 1200,00...
