Contest Entry Posting Begins!

Rather than create a separate thread as originally planned, anyone entering the contest can simply post their final works here in this thread. On Wednesday night, 11:59pm EST we will lock this thread call the community to vote, which gives entrants a few extra days to put on some final touches if they want. Good luck!

Contest Sponsors

Sketchfab is a web service to publish, share and embed interactive 3D models online in real-time without plugin. The world around us is in 3D, but the web is still in 2D, and we want to change that. We think your 3D models deserve something better than screenshots or "showreel" videos. That's why we created Sketchfab. We understand 3D and bring it to the web.

Contest Rules

This contest will last 3 weeks starting on September 1st and ending on September 22nd, 11:59PM EST. You must be a registered member of both GameDev.net and Sketchfab (both free!) as you will be uploading your models to Sketchfab and then embedding them here on the forums for voting. All entries are subject to Sketchfab's Terms of Service.

Two forum threads will be created for this contest. A "Work in Progress" thread can be used by entrants to keep the community informed of their progress (you can also link to your GDnet journal if you want to use that instead). A "Final Entries" thread will go live the day prior to the end of the contest and contain a single post by all entrants containing their embedded model and a reference image of the character/item/environment that was used, as well as the name of the game it is from.

Contest Theme

The theme for this contest is the evolution/de-evolution of any game character, item or environment (part of a level is probably the best way to go). When creating your work based on this model, apply the following guidelines: if it is from a game released in 2008 or later it should be modeled & textured like a game released back around 2000. If it was a game released in 2007 or earlier it should be modeled & textured like a game being released in 2013.

Contest Voting

Once the forum thread containing entries has been created, any GDnet member can vote on as many entries as they wish. The winners will be determined by the highest number of upvotes. While entries can also be downvoted, this will not be allowed for this contest and the accounts of any downvoters will be penalized.

Voting will last for one week and end on September 29th, 11:59PM EST. Winners will be announced the following day.
