How about mage-magic-concentrated game?

I have played many games so far, especially I like strategy game, and mage-magic game. I alway played mage class at blizzard game series(wow, diablo), and at other games too.

But there, mage was just one of a class, and magic is so weak.

I understand this because balance issue among other classes, and at multiplay.

But this isn't enough for mage gamers.

I think mage should be and can be more powerful, and magic skill's divergence and effects can be more deep and rich.

So how about game there is only one class, mage exist, and he can be everything(from melee type to pure mage type) as user assign skill points.

And action system and magic effect should be more grand. Can be really fast like recent DragonBall or Naruto console game.

And battle field's camera view can be set at more higher view, so that user can see more wide area, more enemy appear like tsunami.

And high level mage can deal them by grand magic.

magic skills and effects should be ready so many and can be deeply adjusted, satisfy real gamers.

and there is real magic-versus between mages. (against enemy mages)

There occur furious magic wars at realtime, and timing is important, and choosing proper magic usage order.

This seems complicated game, but for lite gamer, game can has recommendation mode, it recommend what magic to use and just press some key, button is enough.

I know this is not simple game and require many resources.

How do you think about this game?

Thanks.

The closest thing I've seen to this is Magi. It is several years old, and is a 2d game made with an older version of GameMaker. It isn't exactly what you are looking though. It is a 2d game, based solely on the combat between two mages. It is RPG styled, as in you can upgrade stats and levels, but it is only the strategy of combat. There is no movement or exploration at all. On the other hand, it is actually a pretty fun little waste of time though.

About a "real" combat based Mage Game... I think it could work just fine. Just remember though that you can't limit the mage like in some games. The magic has to be as useful as the melee attacks, so shouldn't be based on limited Mana. I'd say bigger spells take more time to do, but smaller spells could be done instantly, like melee attacks. Also, you would need to design around whether you have some spells that don't work on all enemies, like elemental type things. And also think about level design. Do you want the mages to be able to camp out? If so, then maybe if they are in limited space, they can't cast big spells(maybe because they can't properly move the arms, who knows?).
