Windows 8 Losing Internet Connectivity

As of lately I have been running into an odd issue that seems to be with Windows 8. I want to say it happens when the computer isn't active for a little bit but then again that isn't completely true as it happens if I'm just sitting back watching a movie not doing anything else on the computer.

Though the issue is that after a while Windows 8 on my laptop loses internet connectivity. The signal bars show full strength though say "limited connectivity" and it won't even let me go and log into the router as it won't even connect when doing that. When this happens I can go to any other computer and/or device that is not running Windows 8 and their connection is perfect. My 360 connection is perfect, my phones connection is perfect and lets me surf using WiFi and I can even Boot up a Virtual OS that is not Windows 8 (Linux Distribution for example) and it will connect just fine while Windows 8 has connectivity issues.

My room mate has Windows 8 and she also have these issues randomly. They never do happen at the same time. When it happens to her my connection seems fine and I can surf the web just fine. By taking all that into consideration my only thought is that it has to be an issue with Windows 8 and maybe my router. The only way either one of us can fix the issue if we restart our computer. After a restart the connection is perfect again and it goes along like nothing ever happened.

Anyone have any similar issues or know what the issue may be? Just seems odd that it is Windows 8 only but any other OS and/or device never loses connectivity.

Router: Belkin N600

Both Operating Systems with issues: Windows 8 64 bit.

Our laptops are from two totally different manufactures and use different drivers. Also seems odd that on my laptop any other Operating System I've tried never loses connectivity, only Windows 8, so I can't quite blame my Wireless Card.

I've tried reinstalling the latest versions of each of ours Wireless Cards drivers but nothing is helping. I've also updated my router to the latest firmware, and even tried to set it back to the default firmware. Nothing. Router is again updated though.

Again the issue is completely random just about it seems though I'd say it only seems to happen when their isn't network activity currently happening.

Thanks if anyone knows of solutions or knows of this issue! Tried Googling and found other people with the issue but can't seem to find a fix anywhere.

Perhaps you can poke around at the device settings and prevent it from putting the network to sleep.

I remember doing that for some other device, might have been network too...

It is a power saving thing on laptops. Wireless networking can hurt battery life.

Instructions to adjust it are here among other places.

Thanks though everything on my laptop should be set maximum performance. I just checked it out following your instructions frob and going in and checking my Power State Management and everything seemed to be set right. My laptop is most of the time docked and plugged into to two monitors and plugged into the wall. Because of this I did manually go in when I got my laptop to change all those settings.

It doesn't do it all the time when the computer has been asleep or even on hibernation mode. I've come back sometimes after 3 hours of inactivity and everything has been perfect. That's what I mean that everything seems to be random. It does seem to happen most of time after some network inactivity so your advice does seem right but everything seems to check out?

My network adapter doesn't turn off and it finds all the networks around me and even connects to my network like it should but it just connects with limited access when it happens. Disconnecting and reconnecting, and switching the wireless switch on and off doesn't seem to work. Limited Access again when it happens.

Next time it happens I'll see if I can figure some stuff out and look at all the settings. All my power management seems to check out though.

EDIT: As soon as I posted this it did it again...

I went ahead and tried the Windows 8 Network Troubleshooter just to see what it'd spit out at me. It ended up saying "Wifi IP Address Invalid. Can't Fix." I thought that seemed odd. So I went into the network settings on the computer and looked at everything and everything looks to check out just fine. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and the IP Address seemed correct. Though I still couldn't even connect to the router to check the settings out in there. It didn't do it to my room mates computer and again all my other devices worked perfectly on WiFi. Just seems odd to me it said IP Address was invalid but everything seems to check out fine? It did again require a restart.

Right click the internet "bars" next to your clock / date on right bottom.

Network sharing center > Change adapter settings > [select active network] > properties > configure > power management

Hey, you can still consider yourself lucky. I just did a shutdown on my tablet and took it out of the dock, then turned it on.

Apparently this is not allowable under Windows 8, since this is what I got...

that's screen sucks, I got it once and it said it was going to restart but it just froze. What a joke.
