343 and the Halo franchise is owned by Microsoft still, but Bungie bought their independence about 5 years ago, and is now working on a semi-MMO Sci-Fi series of games for Activision as part of a 10-year contract. Just google for "bungie activision contract", and "bungie destiny game" (or see the wikipedia article).

So, uh, 1/3rd of your wish is granted.

I could have worded that better. I'm hoping that through some cataclysmic cosmic miracle that MS will let 343 and Halo go and they would be merged back into Bungie.

So yes, 1/3 is fulfilled.

Beginner in Game Development?  Read here. And read here.

But XBLIG required you to build on top of XNA, right? And XNA is dead, and I haven't heard anything about XNA games running on XBone, so.....? (To me that sounds like XBLIG is simply not coming to xbone)

Yeah this confused me too. I am curious what the future is for xbox development. What other options are out there?

Microsoft's build conference, which is all about developers, is June 26-28. I'm betting that the next XNA-like framework will be announced then.

Well maybe Im not understanding what I read properly, but regardless of how any of you or me interpret something, That article is about indie development

Yes but no. It's about independent XBLA developers -- these are licensed developers who've spend tens of thousands on licensing, dev-kits and certification, but are independent as they are not owned by a publisher.
It is not about XBLIG 'indies', which are kids in their basement with no money, or most of the people on this site.

FWIW, Sony's "self publishing" announcements for PS3/4 only apply to the first definition, not the second, so Sony hasn't said a thing about helping "garage indies" either.

And XNA hasn't been "killed" - its still the only viable way to get an unlicensed game on the 360, and that hasn't changed.
D3D9 had its development halted long before XNA, but it's still used by every licensed 360 game, despite having been "killed" many years ago......

Indies bot Xboned by the Xbone. Hardly surprising. Microsoft have never been known for their happy fun-times business practices.

Honestly I don't expect another XBLIG from MS after the way that went down, and I don't really expect another XNA either. I was expecting that they were going to allow a path for games released on the Windows Store to be playable on the new Xbox, and I suspect that may still happen in the future.

For people concerned about XNA/want a supported framework like XNA, look at MonoGame. The core MonoGame devs are trying to get MonoGame on as many platforms as possible. This includes PS4.

Question:

What is required to produce Xbox1 games now ?

Since XNA and C# apparently are no longer going to be used, what do we have to switch to ?

I personally would have problems finding $1,000 USD to get all the new licensing BS, let alone the above stated $10,000's .. is Xbox1 now a "big corporations only" system ?

I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.
