I'm trying to decide what I want to use to develop my next app. I used to use gamesalad, but I find it too limiting. I don't plan on just making games, so I want to have access to the camera/location/the web. If anyone has other suggestions I'd love to here them.

I was going to just use XCode/Java, but I'd rather not have to do a lot of work to make my app cross platform.

Libraries/frameworks like PhoneGap are less important and more volatile than development tools.

You are starting to develop HTML/Javascript applications: do you have a good enough IDE or advanced text editor? How do you automate building your application (e.g. script consolidation and minification)? What web server do you test it on, and how do you publish your updates? How do you test it in different browsers? What Javascript debuggers and other client-side tools do you have?
