Texture mapping in space simulators...

How can I map a texture(galactic,nebula,etc.) in space simulators?
If you want to have a "static" bitmap in the background, just blit it to the back buffer before starting rendering any other objects (of course, change the coordinates according to the orientation of the camera). That''s what i''m doing with the sky in my landscape engine.
