Getting More Behavior out of Numbers

Thought this would be relevant to put here. This is a repost of the column I wrote for Game Developer Magazine's monthly "Inner Product" column for the January 2011 issue. I had forgotten that I had permission to post it 3 months after it appeared. *shrug*

Anyway, there's a ton of good information in it, so it might help out a lot of people here.

Oh the pains of dealing with others :lol:. Great read... would you say it's better to build an ai around "needs" rather than "haves". ie don't react on what I have but what I need right now?

It has to be a combination of a number of factors. What do I have? What do I want to accomplish? What do I need in order to accomplish that?
