I have an assignment related to apps available on the apps tore to research 'the 6 game styles' being given 2 as 'puzzle' and 'maze'. I am drawing a blank as to what these 6 may be, and can't seem to find much on the subject. Is it true that there are only 6 styles of game? Is it subjective?

Of course it is subjective. All classifications are. Your assignment could have asked for 7 or 5 and you would still be able to find that many classes. What you are supposed to do is try to find many examples of games in the app store and come up with your own classification.
